Day of Prayer 2017

Our Cup Overflows

A Day of Fasting and Praying

Saturday 14th October - Sunday 15th October

Welcome to the District Day of Prayer and Fasting website. Over the weekend of 14th-15th October you are invited to spend time in prayer and fasting and this website aims to offer a varied array of suggestions to support you and your church, circuit and community in this as you come together to seek God and God’s will for your locality.

The theme ‘Our Cup Overflows’ is taken from the lectionary readings for Sunday 15th October - Psalm 23 (The Lord’s My Shepherd) and Matthew 22: 1-14 (The Parable of the Wedding Banquet.) Such  is God’s graciousness to us  that  we have much to be thankful for but we also need to keep seeking God’s vision for us individually and as communities of believers so that we can follow Jesus and be obedient to his will for us.

We hope that the resources will inspire you to take part at some time over the 24 hours but we are not trying to be prescriptive! The important thing is to set some time aside and just pray!

We would love to hear about what you are planning and then we can put your event up on to the District prayer map and into the calendar. Submit your events here

If you have resources that you would like to share with others please send them in and we can upload them too - email them to

We hope that  this will be a really special time of blessing as we come together across the District in prayer and fasting.

Is prayer as easy as falling off a bike, or as hard as cycling through treacle for you?
Would you like a workshop/discussion on issues around prayer in your Circuit? If so, contact Rev Glayne Worgan on  for more details.

A note of caution

While encouraging an appropriate use of fasting, please also be mindful of potential risks and vulnerability for those suffering from, or at risk or in recovery from, eating disorders and mental ill health, in particular young people.  A useful article about this can be found here, if necessary please take further advice.
