Haughton Green Bi-Centenary |
Do you know how long there has been a Methodist Church in Haughton Green? If you look at the Church next time you go past you will see the date it was built on the gable end above the porch, 1810.
This means we are soon to celebrate our Bi-Centenary, 200 years, of a Methodist Church in Haughton Green. We start a year of celebrations in November with our Christmas Fair at 10.30am on Saturday 14th November and will continue the following day with a service to launch our Bi-Centenary Year at 10.30am. All are welcome to join us at these events.
During 2010 we will be holding a number of special events and activities at the church. Details will be published soon, but if you want to note some special dates now there will be a Christmas Tree Festival on the weekend of the 12th and 13th December 2009, a Picture Show of events during the last 50 years in the church on Friday 5th February 2010, a Craft Fair on Saturday 13th March 2010 and a Flower Festival from the 27th May to the 30th May 2010.
How many ministers of our church do you remember? Over the next twelve months we are inviting back ministers who have served the church here in Haughton Green to lead special Bi-Centenary Services. Maybe you have a special reason to remember one of our ministers. Did they marry you? Did they baptise your children? Did they support your family in a time of sadness or need? Look out for the dates on our notice board when they will be visiting.
Over the past 200 years hundreds and hundreds of people have passed through our doors. Did you come to Sunday School here? Did you get married in our Church? Did you come to the Youth Club? Did you play for the Cricket Team or the Football Team? Were you in the Pantomimes? Were you a Rose Queen? Did any of your family come to the Church? If you are somebody who has been in our church or perhaps someone who just wonders what it like inside come and visit us at a service or on one of the open days next year or come to one of the events we are arranging. Watch out for the dates.
