SCYP Youth Café awarded £37,500 from The Joseph Rank Trust

Salt Cellar Youth ProjectMission to Young People

An integral part of the Salt Cellar in Oldham is the Salt Cellar Youth Project (SCYP).

The vision of the SCYP was to extend its work by having a Youth Café. £34,000 of the Circuit Advance Fund was used to ‘kick start’ this vision by establishing a separate Youth Café in the Salt Cellar town centre complex. The mission field of SCYP was primarily based in schools. By having a Youth Café that was open during week days it gave the opportunity to reach those young people who are not in schools, not in training and not employed, as well as those already in education. The SCYP needed to finance the running cost of this new venture as well as seeking funding for the original schools work that is continuing.

The Joseph Rank Trust came to visit the Salt Cellar, saw the exciting opportunities that the Youth Café could create for youth work in the Oldham & Saddleworth Circuit and offered funding of £12,500 each year for three years. We still need to raise funding to fully open the Youth Café but we are thrilled by the confidence The Rank Trust has placed in us to deliver the project and to turn ‘hope into reality’ for a whole new group of young people.
