Deacon Jenny Jones began her role in Manchester in September 2023. Here, we find out a bit more about her and the things she’s been up to in the first 4 months of her post.

“Whilst a cradle Methodist it seemed that my life in London was to focus on family and finance.  That was until the day I went to visit a deacon whilst writing a lottery bid.  From that moment I knew what God had been calling me to for many years.

Since training, I have served as a deacon in the city centres of Leeds, Nottingham and now Manchester.  I have a passion to be alongside those who live, work and play in the city.  I see God at work in the diversity of people in our cities, in the different cultures and in the conflict of those who have and those who have-not.  I feel called to witness to God’s love and justice in my actions and words where there seems to be hopelessness, addiction and uncertainty.

Being part of the team at Central Hall, Manchester, I lead on the Befrienders project and the Re-boot project, which provides shoes, boots and socks to those who cannot afford adequate footwear (normally the homeless or asylum seekers).  I am also involved with the breakfasts provided by LifeShare in the Mosaic part of Central Hall and much more.”
